Making a schedule helps you stay aware of your goals throughout the day, and if you know your goals for the day, you’re more likely to hold yourself accountable. Using a calendar/schedule app, like Google Calendars, is useful because the items on your schedule pop up as notifications on your phone, helping you manage your time throughout the day. Physical planners are a valuable alternative. They’re widely available and fairly affordable.

Follow Your Schedule

Just freakin’ do it! No one else can live your life for you, so follow your schedule and make yourself proud. If you need a little extra help getting started, try rewarding yourself when you finish something you’ve schedule. After going for a run, eat a box or two of Girl Scout cookies. After making dinner for you family, run away to Atlantic City. After writing up a report, quit your job. If it helps you adhere to your goals, it might be worthwhile.

At the end of the day, New Year’s resolutions are meant to inspire you to grow as an individual. Keeping a New Year’s resolution is a brilliant opportunity to practice time management and self-motivation, but if it doesn’t work out, don’t feel discouraged. Being unable to keep a New Year’s resolution might mean that you’re already perfect.
